No, the IEC 60335-1 and IEC 60335-2-43 are the only international safety standards that are recognized in most countries around the world that contain specifications of safe working temperatures.

Yes, thanks to Direct Intelligent Heating, the area under the towel increases in temperature when the towel is placed on the towel rail. This process does not use any additional electricity. It is also important to note that it is only the covered surfaces that increase in temperature, not the entire rail. This is a benefit of not having any fluid in the heated towel rail. The uncovered and exposed surfaces remain below an absolute temperature of 55°C.

INSTALLATION

Yes, dry element heated towel rails are perfectly safe to use in a damp environment as they have International Protection rating of IPX5 and have been tested and comply with the relevant international safety standard.

Bathroom Butler heated towel rails have an IPX5 rating and are therefore certified to be installed in zones 1, 2 and 3 in a bathroom which includes the area above a bath. Certification is available upon request.

There is no specific height that a heated towel rail must be installed at, in most cases it is a personal choice.

Yes. Only Bathroom Butler DET towel rails can be installed with the EO at the top. This is done by simply turning the Bathroom Butler DET towel rail upside down.

A double pole isolator is a disconnecting switch that disconnects both live and neutral conductors in a single phase supply. In other words it isolates the appliance from any electricity. The heated towel rail must be connected to an isolator, where
a) the isolating switch is within 1.5m of the heated towel rail or
b) in a distribution board (if the isolating switch can be locked in the open position) or
c) a socket outlet (plug socket) where it is recommended that the heated towel rail is within 3m of the plug socket.

To clean the product firstly switch OFF your heated towel rail and allow it to cool down. Secondly wipe it down with a warm damp cloth then buff it dry.

  • Removing light scratches: Metal polish can be used to remove light scratches or blemishes.
  • Tile grout cleaner is out: Never use tile grout cleaner on your Grade 304 Stainless Steel products, as it will cause brown marks that are almost impossible to remove. If you are retiling your bathroom – it is always better to remove any stainless steel fittings or fixtures beforehand, and only re install them once the grout has been successfully applied and the excess tile grout has been removed.
  • Steel wool is a no-no: Never scour the surface with steel wool, as it will cause scratches on your Stainless Steel product and it will contaminate the surface.
  • Chlorine will damage the surface: Avoid any household detergents that contain Chlorine as this can affect the surface finish of your Stainless Steel product.

For optimum drying, we recommend that a towel is folded twice creating 4 layers and then placed on the horizontal bars of the heated towel rail. By folding the towel in 4 layers, the heat is trapped under the towel which then slowly seeps through the layers of the towel drying it more quickly and efficiently, and adding some warmth at the same time. The bottom of the towel should not extend 150mm below the bottom horizontal bar.

Some More Tips: Don’t “snake” the towel through the bars as the heat will just escape into the air. Don’t place more than 4 layers at a time as this may prevent the outer layer from drying.

DET stands for Dry Element Technology which is the heating technology Bathroom Butler uses for heated towel rails. Simply explained a silicone coated heating wire is thread through the bars of the heated towel rail and when the power is switched on the heating wire gets hot which in turn heats up all the bars at once. This new technology allows for several benefits that would otherwise not be possible.

Bathroom Butler has found DET to be better than Fluid Filled for several reasons, DET heated towel rails contain no thermal fluid thus there is no possibility of any leaks; DET heated towel rails are lighter and thus easier to install; DET heated towel rails also heat up quicker than Fluid Filled, thus making them more economical.

10-15 minutes for Bathroom Butler DET heated towel rails to heat up to 30°C above room temperature, whereas the older Fluid Filled models can take anything from 60-90 minutes to heat up to working temperature.

If you purchase a Bathroom Butler DET heated towel rail with PTSelect Switch or TDC Timer then the switch will be located on the bottom left.

PTSelect is short for the Personal Temperature Selection Switch which is discretely built into our heated towel rails with the designation PTS.  The flexibility of the PTSelect switch allows users to adjust the temperature as desired for all year-round use and affords control over running costs by switching on and off the heated towel rail.

TDC Timer is short for Total Digital Control Timer, which is elegantly built into our heated towel rails with the designation TDC.  The advanced features of the TDC Timer allows users to program the heated towel rail to automatically switch on and off.  The TDC Timer also has temperature adjustment so that users can increase or decrease the temperature of the unit to their personal liking for all year round use.  The features of the TDC Timer help conserve energy and reduce running costs by as much as 75%.

Light bulbs are also designed to run 24/7, but when homeowners leave the room, they should switch the light off. So like any modern day appliance heated towel rails should be supplied with a switch to allow users to switch them off when not in use. Anything less would be wasteful.

Radiators are very popular in Europe and are designed as part of the central heating system of the home to heat the entire bathroom, and therefore use large amounts of electricity, between 600 Watts and 1500 Watts. While heated towel rails are not designed to heat the bathroom, their main purpose is to dry your bath towels and therefore use very little electricity, between 60 Watts to 120 Watts.

INSTALLATION

To install our bathroom accessories in a masonry (brick) wall you need a Hand Drill Machine, Tape Measure, Pencil, Spirit Level Screw Driver and various drill bits (Ø10mm Spade Bit, Ø6mm masonry drill bits).

The RIGID Loc is a unique mounting method for bathroom accessories designed and engineered by Bathroom Butler that prevents accessories from coming loose. At Bathroom Butler we believe in a business ethos of continuous innovation and designing products by listening to what customers have to say. One of the most common problems with bathroom accessories is that the grub screws need constant retightening to prevent the accessories from coming loose. Bathroom Butler’s RIGID Loc Mounting System was specially engineered to overcome this problem. The patented design ensures Bathroom Butler’s accessories remain firmly secured in place.

The RIGID Loc Mounting System has been tested vigorously for performance and durability in-house. A strenuous knock test was developed to simulate the vibrations caused by daily use of various bathroom accessories. The RIGID Loc Mounting System passed more than 100 000 knocks which is incredible compared to the traditional grub screw fixation which failed after only 300 knocks.

As DIY products, Bathroom Butler accessories are easy and simple to install. A screw with a T-shaped barrel clamps down on the wall fixing. As you slide the accessory over the wall fixing, the barrel fits neatly into its groove. When you tighten the screw the T-shaped barrel slides down into place, pulling the accessory tight against the wall. The barrel is then locked into place.

When we were designing the RIGID Loc Mounting System we found that there were two parts to having a secure mounting. The first is the fixing of the mounting bracket to the wall and the second is the fixing of the accessory to the mounting bracket. We solved the problem of a secure mounting between the accessory and mounting bracket with RIGID Loc, but we also found a problem when fixing the mounting bracket to the wall. The basic problem is that most walls today are very soft resulting in a problem of oversized holes being drilled and also many installers using the closest drill size they have in their toolbox again resulting in oversized holes. We found that when using original Fischer® UX Wall Plugs, the mounting bracket is still secure even in oversized holes.

Yes, you can install Bathroom Butler RIGID Loc bathroom accessories on a dry wall using the original Fischer® UX Wall Plugs supplied with the product. Provided the dry wall is thicker than 24mm or you can fasten directly into a stud.

No, you must not remove the template. The reason for this is that the mounting template actually forms part of the RIGID Loc Mounting System by acting as a non-slip surface between the wall and the ribbed back of the mounting bracket.

Yes it does matter which way the RIGID Loc barrel is positioned. The little legs must be facing downwards like legs on the ground. The purpose of the legs is to make sure the RIGID Loc barrel does not rotate when the screw is tightened.

You know you have tightened the RIGID Loc bathroom accessories enough when the cover plate is tight against the wall. To achieve this, make sure that you hold the Allen key on the long end to get as much leverage as possible.

In our opinion there are too many sensitive installation requirements with all the glue mounting systems at this point in time. Until a glue has been developed that is not sensitive to small amounts of dirt, dust and moisture we do not believe in offering a glue mounting.

Yes, you can remove your bathroom accessories from the wall by loosening the screw using the Allen key. You will however notice that it is more difficult to loosen the screw than it was to tighten it – this is RIGID Loc in action.

Yes, it does matter which way you install the RIGID Loc mounting bracket. If it is not installed the correct way around, the accessory will not slide over the mounting.

No you do not, however we highly recommend that you do as it will make for a more secure mounting.

For the Fischer® UX Wall Plugs you should use Ø6mm drill bit. If you drill a hole that is too big then it will weaken your mounting.

Simply wipe your product down regularly with a warm damp cloth then buff it dry. Dust particles contain contaminants, and if they are allowed to settle on any product for long enough, they will eventually cause marks to form.
